News at the shop

Posted by equilterscorner on Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

We've been pretty busy at the shop lately.  I've also been busy sewing at home.  I've made a few new samples and hung some stuff at the shop that I've put up photos of below.

The first thing I made was Baby's Bow Wow Blankie from All through the Night.  I decided to make it in primary colors using batiks of course, with a white on white background.  I haven't done any hand applique lately so the pull toys were done by hand. I have to say they didn't take that long at all.  The quilt is simple and stunning if I do say so myself.  It only took me about an hour to quilt it using a free-motion loop pattern.

Cyndi and Linda are taking it to the Pennsylvania National Quilt Extravaganza XVI.  We are excited that the show has moved back to the Philadelphia area. We missed lots of New Jersey and downstate New York people when it was in Harrisburg. It's a really great quilt show with hundreds of juried quilts and lots of great vendors. Congrats to our teacher Pat Costantini for having two quilts accepted. The dates of the show are September 17-20.  Hours are Thursday through Saturday 10am-6pm, and Sunday 10am-4pm.  The location is The Greater Philadelphia Expo Center at Oaks.  Address is 100 Station Ave, Oaks, PA. 19456.  Maybe you can run by and see it in person.  We've got kits too!

So then I've also made my first bag.  I don't think I did as well there.  I'm not much for directions so of course I didn't come home with the right fusible fleece.  I only put fleece on the outside layers of the bag, when it called for them on the lining too.  I also used heavy on the sides and lighter weight on the pockets. That actually seemed to work.  I screwed up the lining by a stupid mistake.  After all that it still came out nice.  It needs some Dill buttons, so we're talking about getting some to sell in the shop.  They are very cool and distinct.  The pattern is Pockets A Plenty by Whistlepig Creek Productions. Hope you like it too.

I also put up a couple new samples from the upcoming Laurie Shiffrin lecture and classes here at Quilters Corner.  The curved sample below is for the Mango Tango class and the fan folded quilt is from her latest book, Batik Gems. The quilt is called Queen Charlotte and is the sample for the second class she will teach here.  Check out the home page upcoming events to get more info on her classes.
